Design and Construction Resources

A detailed set of construction drawings and specifications is developed after the preferred plan and cost estimate are approved by the Planning Board and the Montgomery County Council. This set of drawings outlines all materials and processes necessary for construction. During this phase, staff coordinates with utility companies and outside agencies, and obtains final permits and approvals for the project. The project is then bid for construction.

Designs for trails, kiosks, and trail signage are also completed at this time, and appropriate standards for mowing and non-native invasive plant removal are finalized.

It can take several years to complete a new park or major renovation. The length of time needed for preliminary design through construction varies by project and depends on the availability and timing of the project funding as well as the scale and complexity. If funding is not available at the time of the approval of the plan, the Montgomery County Council will set the schedule and the funding at a later date.

Once construction is complete, we can prepare the site for use by the public!
