Friends of Black Hill Nature Programs

Happy 10th Anniversary FOBH!

Our friends group was formed in April 2001 to support, promote, and sustain the nature programs and special events conducted by the interpretive naturalist staff at Black Hill Visitor Center. We believe that these educational programs are the heart of the park. As a friends group, we give our support to many types of programs including:

  • Family Events: Monarch Fiesta Day, and Astronomy Day, Children's programs: Babes in the Park, Storytime on the Lake, fishing, lake exploration, and night hikes
  • Pontoon boat cruises, kayaking and canoeing
  • Adult programs: special hikes, and van tours
  • Programs for schoolchildren, preschoolers, scouts, and seniors
  • The Friends group purchased a greenhouse in which to grow native plants for use by our local schools & the visitor center gardens

Why become a member?

  • To receive a discount on all nature programs at Black Hill
  • To ensure that the natural and cultural history programs at the park continue
  • To become involved with issues that affect the programs
  • To attend events conducted just for our friends group such as van trips, kayak trips, picnics, pontoon boat tours, hikes and natural history training sessions
  • To have the opportunity to volunteer and work closely with the park naturalists
  • To gain a sense of satisfaction in helping our friends and neighbors of all ages experience and preserve nature
